Magnolia Howard

Magnolia Howard is an award-winning Goldsmith and Designer, based in Western Australia. A resident of the coastal town Broome, in the west Kimberley of Australia, for more than 20 years. By 1910 Broome was the largest pearling centre in the world. Immersed in the rich history of 'the pearling capital of the world', Magnolia has a passion for Australian Broome South Sea Pearls, which runs deep within her veins.

Magnolia's preference for pearls has seen her work almost exclusively with Australian pearls for the last 15 years, among other locally sourced Australian gemstones and gold. This wealth of experience shows in her designs and creations involving these beautiful materials.

In her senior role in Broome’s jewellery industry, Magnolia was involved in the production of The Australian Pearl Design Competition in 2017 and the subsequent contributor to The Australian Pearl Magazine. On a broader scale, Magnolia has volunteered to The Broome Community Stallholders Association as the Vice Chair and Chairperson.

At the beginning of 2018, Magnolia embarked on a new journey as the founder of Magnolia Designs. A jewellery brand centred around legacy, built through a foundation of high design, quality, and intentionality.

Passion for great design, forged in metal, to withstand time. Let your legacy live on.

Magnolia Designs

Established in 2018, Magnolia Designs begun at the Broome Courthouse Markets, a community trading market founded by Magnolia’s late mother Claire Howard.

Magnolia’s mission in the creation of Magnolia Designs is legacy building. ‘Passion for great design, forged in metal, to withstand time. Let your legacy live on.’

These words are the centre piece of all elements of Magnolia Designs – the essence filtrating through to every aspect of the brand from material selection to the custom handmade leather packaging used.

Each piece becomes about the capturing of a story, a moment in time that is crystallised in the precious metals with which Magnolia creates.

January of 2020 saw the materialisation of Magnolia’s mission with her inaugural collection for Magnolia Designs; Temple. Temple pays homage to a childhood growing up in Broome, with the scent of the Temple or Plumeria (Frangipani) flowers hanging heavily in the warm tropical air and having her late mother pick the flowers and place them behind her ears. With the first pieces of the Temple collection being gifted to Magnolia’s mother Claire on Mother’s Day, before her passing in 2021, the legacy and spirit of this collection holds now even more importance for Magnolia and her family. The memory of her mother’s love living on in every piece of Temple.

Magnolia’s award-winning designs, since her inception of Magnolia Designs, have been featured in the Australian Jewellery Design Awards (JDA), with category winning pieces in 2019 and finalist piece in 2020. Read more here.

After some time establishing her brand down at the markets, 2022 saw the opening of Magnolia Design’s Boutique in Chinatown Broome, located on 6/17 Carnarvon Street.

Now in 2024 Magnolia Designs’ can be found online, with appearances in the Perth market scene at the UpMarkets held in Winthrop Hall at University of Western Australia.
